The pump is not about distance, it is about time
A ready mix truck discharges about sixteen feet from the back of the drum, downhill, in a straight line. That covers a driveway apron and almost nothing else. Everything past it is either wheelbarrows or a pump, and people usually think the choice is about reach.
It is really about the clock. Concrete starts setting the moment it leaves the plant, and every part of finishing a slab has to happen inside a window that a Florida afternoon closes fast. A fifty yard monolithic pour placed by barrow is setting at one end while it is still arriving at the other, and you get a cold joint through the foundation of the house.
A boom places at the rate the finishers can actually work. That is the whole mechanism, and it is why a pumped slab tends to finish flatter and cure more evenly than the same mix placed slowly. Nothing to do with the concrete.

The federal MCS-150 filed in August 2025 lists three power units and three drivers. When a truck rolls out, one of three people is driving it, and you already spoke to them.

The pour finishes together
A monolithic slab has to go before the first section sets. A boom places at the rate the finishers can work, which is how you avoid a cold joint through the middle of a foundation.
Nothing crosses your yard
The truck stays on the drive and the line goes over the roof, the fence and the screen cage. No panels out of the pool enclosure and no barrow ruts through the lawn.
Early rather than on time
One customer wrote that the crew showed up thirty minutes early and flagged a problem with their supplier before it became a problem on the slab. Another, on a fifty yard house foundation, wrote that they showed up on time and ready to work.

Where a truck can stand on firm ground, what is overhead, and how far it is to the furthest corner of the pour. This is the part that decides the day.

The pump is on site ahead of the first mixer. The line gets primed, the pour runs at the rate your finishers can work, and the washout goes where we agreed rather than into a storm drain.

If the mixer can back to within about sixteen feet of the pour and discharge downhill, no. Past that you are into wheelbarrows, and on anything over a few yards the pump is usually cheaper than the labor once you count what a slow placement does to the finish.
It depends which of the three trucks the job gets and where it can safely set up, so it gets answered on the call rather than guessed here. Tell us how far the pour is from where a truck can park and what is overhead.
